The temple of Horus, built from the 3rd to 1st centuries BC, is second in size only to Karnak and the best preserved temple in all of Egypt. The carvings on the right have their heads mutilated, a later relic of the Christian presence in Egypt when the buildings were still utilized but the local beliefs were being eradicated.
