UPCOMING EVENTS:

Our next BLOCK MEETING will be on Wednesday, April 27, 6:30PM, at Patrice's (79 Dodge).
(by Greg Wurgler) First Neighborhood clean-up of 2010: A noticed success on Sunday, August 22!
As a program of the WHNO Crime and Safety committee, committee chair Joe Boyle organized a new neighborhood trash pick-up day for the West Hill Area in cooperation with Keep Akron Beautiful. Joe set the date, sent the call for volunteers e-mail, and then worked with KAB to get supplies (bags, gloves, and hand cleaner) and distributed them to the interested individuals who adopted an area for the clean-up day. Designed as a show of personal support, initiative, and interest in the neighborhood, the adopted areas were led by local champions who contacted neighbors and made it happen. TEAM SQUARE met on a neighbor's porch at 8 AM to drink coffee and develop the route plan. The outer boundary lines were; Beck to Crosby, Crosby to Portage Path, Portage Path to West Market, West Market back to Beck. This area included the streets within of S. Highland, Grand, Dodge, Byers, Payne and Westmoreland Terrace as well as the full boundary. Team Square divided up and after one hour, the net take was 6 full garbage bags of trash. The team also received no fewer than four complements from neighbors including one inspired individual at Angel Falls who exclaimed: .you.ve inspired me to go home and clean-up my street today!. Team SQUARE (in photo L-R): Holli Mallak, Greg Wurgler, April Levack, Linda Kellackey, Dan Kellackey, Pat Gough.
