Welcome to Scott and Mike's trip webpage for the "FIRE" (Finland / Iceland /
Russia / Estonia") nations which we visited for 2 weeks in late May / early
June 2006. The trip began as an idea to visit either Scandinavia or Russia,
and evolved as we discovered that it was relatively easy to get to St.
Petersburg and Estonia from Helsinki, and so we chose that route. Iceland
came about since Icelandair had the cheapest flight to Helsinki, and allowed
a free stopover for one night.
Helsinki is a beautiful and quiet city, interesting and expensive, but
you don't feel like you're in a tourist trap. St. Petersburg, well, for
all the hoops we jumped through to get a visa, we made the most of our time,
though it definitely wasn't as nice as we'd thought. Tallinn is a town in
transition, with cranes everywhere and a strong forward-looking mindset. And
Reykjavik is just out there, more expensive than anywhere I've ever been, but
incredibly unique. All in all, we spent two weeks where we never actually saw
darkness.

main cities we visited. To see our pictures, click
